Being a baby photographer in Houston TX means I have the honor of meeting so many beautiful new additions to families. A new baby is one of your family’s biggest milestones, and I am so fortunate I get to document that for you!
During your consultation, we go over your vision for your newborn session, including any colors you’d like to incorporate into your baby’s posed portraits.
My goal when photographing your baby is to get a variety of poses and angles, with the least amount of transition or disruption. Like any Mom, I try not to wake a sleeping baby! That is why I am so deliberate about when to swaddle, unswaddle, and change a baby’s clothes.
This workflow, and knowing what to do if the baby does wake, is essential! Safety is always first and foremost, which is why having an experienced newborn photographer is so important.
You’ll see during the session that once the baby is safely posed and comfortable, I move around a lot! This ensures I am able to document all of the little details, like hands, feet, pouty lips, and your newborn’s eyelashes to give you variety in your gallery.
Below are some of the most requested poses from my clients. What I love most about these poses for newborns is their simplicity. With neutral and pastel tones, they are truly classic portraits of your baby. Scroll to see, and be prepared for some baby fever!
Five Favorite Poses for your Newborn Session | Houston TX Baby Photographer
One – Bum up
This is my most requested pose! It’s great to start with because babies love to lay on their tummies and most settle easily into a deep sleep. It’s also a very natural way for babies to curl up on their own, just as they would lay on Mom or Dad’s chest!
In this position, I always document the baby’s perfect facial features and the little newborn rolls from a variety of angles. Often those little rolls are my clients’ favorites images!
Two – Swaddled
Swaddled poses are great, especially if baby doesn’t fall asleep right away. The swaddle helps with the startle reflex and adds another layer of texture. It also holds hands and feet in place for more detail images!
Three – Laid Back
I find this pose is chosen often for birth announcements! Its a great combination of a simple swaddle technique but still showing off all of baby’s face and adorable details. They can startle easily in this pose, so I let them curl their legs together and tuck their hands under their legs ever so slightly!
Four – Snuggle
This might be my personal favorite! It’s just the cutest snuggle position. Most babies will let me interlock their fingers which makes it look like praying hands, while also helping to prop their face up slightly.
Five – Chin on Hands
Babies tend to love this position as well because we let them lay on their tummy again. I love seeing their little cheeks in this pose! This is a great alternative to the froggy position, where baby’s head is propped on their hands.
