Home Birth with The Labor Enabler

Tina and Lee found me thanks to one of my favorite doulas, Kathleen from The Labor Enabler. I just love working with Kathleen and getting to see the amazing work she does with her clients. This home birth was no different as it was nothing short of amazing!

This birth story goes back to this past September. It was Sunday, September 16th, 2018 at around 1 pm when I received a text from Kathleen that Tina was in early labor. I had been expecting to hear from them soon and was ready for an evening of birthing!!  We kept in close contact but later that evening her husband called me on speakerphone and said they were ready for me to come to the house.  I knew she was in active labor so I headed out right away.  When I arrived, they were in the bathroom working through contractions with their midwife there beside her and listening to the baby.  Shortly after this, Tina’s doula Kathleen arrived and that’s when all the fun started.

Tina moved from the bathroom to hands and knees in their bedroom.  Alongside her was her dog, Chiquita. Tina and Lee have had Chiquita since she was 6 weeks old and as you’ll see from the images below, she never left Tina’s side. It was the sweetest gesture! Things picked up quite fast from there and we moved to the birthing tub in the living room. At this point, I knew that baby was coming soon. This was most definitely a birth I’ll never forget. Between the love shared by Tina and Lee, Chiquita looking on, and the gracefulness of water birth, it was the most amazing birth experience.

Not shortly after, the baby was born but needed a little extra help taking her first few breaths.  As you can see mom was a great table for her new little miracle to be placed on and her midwife did a phenomenal job of getting her exactly what she needed.  A few minutes later mom was able to turn over and see her precious little miracle for the first time.  It gives me chills just sitting here thinking about it and remembering the emotion involved and seeing them so ecstatic to meet her. She was born at 11:29 pm and weighed 7lbs 1.5 oz.
