As a Houston Birth Photographer, I have the opportunity to document many births. You’d think I’d be used to it by now but my heart started racing as soon as I woke up to meet this family for their induction. Looking forward to capturing a new baby’s arrival into this world has a way of getting my adrenaline rushing. Being part of such a momentous occasion just never gets old! I arrived at the Texas Children’s Hospital at 5:30am to meet this sweet family and begin documenting them right from the start. I’m so excited to share this birth story with you today here on the blog!
Houston Birth Photographer | Texas Children’s Hospital Birth Story
As soon as I arrived at the hospital, I watched Kristen and Steven check in and I was so excited to be a part of all the anticipation of the birth of their baby!
Kristen’s doctor had previously given his approval for me to be present in the operating room but, unfortunately, the OR manager didn’t approve. As much as we might prepare for what to expect on the day of a birth, you never know what will happen that day. We were heartbroken but understanding, too, so I joined Big Brother S, his grandparents, and aunt in the waiting room.
The Baby’s Arrival
Since I always carry a backup camera with me to my birth sessions, I was able to send Dad into the OR with my backup. Luckily, Steven and Kristen had a couple of great nurses that were all on board with taking a quick snap before the big moment.
Introducing Baby H to her family
Once the surgery was completed, I was so thankful that I was the first person called into the recovery room. Being the first one to capture Kristen and Steven with their new little baby was such an honor!
I captured as many newborn baby details as I could before grandma and Big Brother S came into the room and my attention turned to them. There was so much joy! Meeting the newest addition to your family is always an emotional moment but what made this one even more exciting is that neither grandma nor big brother knew the gender of the baby yet. And it was a girl! Baby H is such a welcome addition to this now family of four. Mama actually thought she’d be having a boy so this little princess came as a big surprise to her, too!
Big Brother S was so gentle when he met his baby sister for the first time and I think my heart just about melted when he reached out to her.
And here are the proud grandfathers! So much joy!! I love that Baby H will some day get to see these images of her family’s excitement over her arrival. That’s the thing about birth photography, isn’t it? These images may mean a lot to parents and grandparents, but some day Baby H will treasure them just as much.
The first official portrait of baby and her parents!
During my time with this sweet family I got to capture this adorable little lady with her grandmothers and auntie, too. Auntie, if you’re reading this, get ready to love, love your new role! As an aunt myself, I know that being an auntie is the best thing ever!
Welcome to the world, Baby H!
May these images serve as a reminder of how much love has surrounded you since the day of your birth.
