This session was perfect for newborn photos at two weeks old. This cutie was a little bigger than some of two week old babies we have in the studio and he was one of the cutest!
When Should I Take Newborn Pictures?
Did you know that according to the World Health Organization, a baby is considered a newborn if they are younger than 28 days, and that most pediatricians consider babies under 2 months as newborns? While we are not concerned with which definition you go with, we have found that newborn photos are best done between 10 and 18 days after the baby is born. We have babies come in before 10 days, and sometimes babies come in after 18. After photographing hundreds of newborns, I’ve learned that around the two week mark is when babies are most likely to cooperate with being molded into the curled up poses, still like being swaddled snugly, and have gained enough weight to have those super cute baby rolls you’ve seen in our portraits.
What do newborn photos look like at two weeks?
This little guy was exactly 14 days old during his newborn portrait session. Mom and baby came in and while we got started with his newborn photos, mom got her hair and makeup done. We typically start with unwrapped poses once the baby is settled, fed, and sleepy. He was a snugly, round baby, and did a great job in each pose. Once we finished his unwrapped poses we moved on to props and got so many great images in the bucket and crate. Sometimes, two week old newborns are the perfect size for these props. There are other times when a 14 day old baby is still so tiny for these that they need extra support. Other newborns at two weeks are so big they barely fit. That’s why we recommend hiring a newborn photographer who has experience working with babies of all ages and sizes, to make sure that your baby is always safe while being posed.
Two Week Old Newborn Photos with Family
This session also included mom, dad, brother, sister, and even one set of grandparents, all the way from Australia! We love including extended family members in newborn sessions… especially grandparents. Without them, this new life wouldn’t be possible! If you’re pregnant and thinking of booking newborn photos, don’t wait until your baby is two weeks old to reach out. Let us know early in your second trimester so we can put your due date on the calendar and guarantee we’ll have a spot for you once your baby is born.
