Photographing newborns is such an exciting thing for me. I love getting to capture all the beautiful little details of this fleeting stage for mom and dad. As a mom myself, I know how tired you are in the first few weeks and how quickly those tiny features of your baby can change! When momma reached out to me for newborn portraits for baby number 2, I was thrilled! If the baby boy was anything like his sister, I knew I would have a sleepy newborn in the studio once again.
I’ve photographed their family several times and we spent the first few minutes chatting and getting all caught up as no time had passed. Mom wanted some portraits in blues and greens, and we got some great images of this sleepy little newborn wrapped in blue and snuggled up on a light sage green. Dad was amazed by the wrapping process, so he got to see a few of the tricks I use when wrapping.
Sibling Portraits with Sleepy Newborn | Big Sister and Baby Brother
After the baby brother was wrapped, we started off with sibling portraits to make sure big sister stayed engaged in the process. Sister did a great job, and we even got lots of laughs, making for some wonderful images!
One great thing about photographing older siblings during a newborn portrait session is photographing them all by themselves. Just look at how much she has grown since her cake smash session!
Sleeping Newborn, Unwrapped and Content
After sister and dad left, the focus was all on baby brother. Mom sat back and was able to relax on the sofa while baby boy became the star of the show. The time it takes for a newborn photography session all depends on how well the baby settles and sleeps. What a great sleeper this guy is! He was the poster child for sleepy newborns when he was wrapped in the blue swaddle. Even after changing out of the swaddles, he stayed asleep and snuggled on the sage green and white blankets in the studio. Take a peek at the images we captured from this session!
Sleeping Newborn Siblings, Two Years Apart
Here’s a side by side of baby brother and big sister from each of their newborn sessions. Even though they were styled a little different, look how cute they are right next to each other! Hiring the same photographer for each of your children’s sessions will keep a consistent appearance when you hang the portraits on your walls.
Check out another sibling and newborn photography session I did here, where I recreated some of their son’s portraits with their new daughter!
If you are expecting and have other little ones at home, we would love to have you in to capture images of sibling love and your *hopefully* sleepy little newborn.
